Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Durack has or used to have 72 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Spectacled Hare-wallaby.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Lagorchestes conspicillatus conspicillatus

Status: Vulnerable

Lagorchestes conspicillatus conspicillatus is found across 1 electorates.

The Spectacled Hare-wallaby is a stocky marsupial with distinctive bright orange rings around its eyes. It has brown fur above and white fur below. Individuals grow to 47 cm long and weigh up to 4.5 kg. It has a sparsely-haired tail which grows to 49 cm long. The species is generally solitary, though small groups of up to three have been seen feeding together.¹
