Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Lingiari has or used to have 70 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Central Rock-rat.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Status: Critically Endangered

The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) lists threatened species under six categories:
Extinct, Extinct in the wild, Critically Endangered, Endangered, Vulnerable, Conservation dependent. Read more about these categories

Zyzomys pedunculatus is only found within Lingiari

Rediscovered in 1996, the central rock-rat is restricted to the West MacDonnell Ranges of central Australia. The species has irruptive demography and is recorded in high densities following rainfall events. It occurs in a variety of rocky habitat. It mostly eats seeds and lesser amounts of leaves, stems and insects.¹

Lingiari has or used to have 38 threatened plants found within its boundaries. Some of these might not be as photogenic as the Central Rock-rat but they're just as important.
