Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Lingiari has or used to have 70 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Christmas Island Blind Snake.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

The Christmas Island Blind Snake is a bright pink or pinkish-brown snake with a pale brown belly. This species grows to 35 cm in length, has a rounded snout, scales in 20 rows at mid-body and an oval rostral scale. The eyes are vestigial and reduced to a pair of small pigmented organs lying beneath the skin of the head. The mouth is small and underslung and closes tightly to avoid ingesting soil when burrowing. The very short tail ends in a blunt spine that the snake uses to gain leverage in the soil when burrowing.¹
