Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.
Lingiari has or used to have 70 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Northern Hopping-mouse.
We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

The northern hopping mouse is a small, shy native rodent with large eyes and an amazing talent for building burrows. Females dig out complex burrows up to five metres long. It is a grand architect and expertly constructs multiple hidden entry and exit holes that provide escape routes and a source of confusion for predators. Despite being a rodent, the northern hopping mouse lives up to its name by standing up and hopping around on its two hind legs, like a tiny kangaroo. It also has an extremely long tail that can be up to 1.5 times its body length. Groote Eylandt possibly contains the last population of the northern hopping mouse.¹
