Elected representatives in government are in charge of the policy and funding that can make or break saving threatened species. Their decisions and actions matter.

Lyons has or used to have 38 threatened animals within its boundaries. One of them is me, the Golden Galaxias.

We took care to attach appropriate images that are as close to representative of each species as our resources and the availability of images allowed. However, we could not ensure perfect accuracy in every case. Some images show species that share the same genus but not at the species or subspecies level.

Galaxias auratus is only found within Lyons

The Golden Galaxias is a small to medium, stout freshwater fish, golden to olive in colour with amber to light orange fins. Endemic to Tasmania, its distribution is restricted to two lakes and associated streams and wetlands on the Central Plateau. Golden Galaxias adults prefer rocky shoreline habitats feeding on a variety of aquatic and terrestrial insects, small crustaceans and molluscs. In contrast to most other galaxias species the Golden Galaxias spawns in late autumn to winter. Low lake levels are a primary threat to this species.¹
